Hello everyone! Today, I am pleased to present a special guest post from my dear bride. Please read it and pass it on to your friends and family if you are able to help.
Without any further ado…
Looking for a way to give or pay it forward this holiday season?
Hi there, I am The Wife, a.k.a. Mama Bear, a.k.a. Jenny. I wanted to write this guest post on Marc’s blog to help get the word out about some very important things going on for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center here in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the hospital that Pinger/The Deductible Slayer was at for all of his heart related surgeries, procedures and subsequent complications.
Right now, volunteers are in the process of gathering toiletry and snack food items for the families at Cardinal Glennon who stay with their children at bedside 24/7. Speaking as someone who really benefited from this endeavor this past year while I stayed for a total of about a month and a half with Pinger/The Deductible Slayer, this is a wonderful project and one that will touch many people in very positive ways.
My experience was having my baby at 4-8 weeks old, 4 months old and 10 months old, going through some major heart procedures, surgeries and life-threatening complications. As a Mom, I did not want to leave my baby’s side for a minute. I rarely did. I would leave to shower, get food (they don’t allow room service in the PICU), and talk with my family. (I didn’t want to wake a resting baby or interfere with the medical professionals.) Therefore, heading out to grab toiletry items and food was the last thing on my list of things “to do.”
The Glennon Ambassador’s program (a group of volunteers who are grateful families giving back to the hospital) offered donated food and snack items for FREE and their coordinator came room to room! The toiletry bag donation is a new program that is “rolling out” January 1st, 2015 and it’s going to do a lot of good for the families at the hospital.
I was one of the more fortunate Mom’s who lived close by and my husband could come from time to time to drop off anything I might be needing. Many families come from all over the country and some have even traveled internationally to receive care at this hospital. Let’s be honest too, cafeteria food can get expensive as well as toiletry items purchased in the gift shop.
Knowing all of this, I am happy and proud to be giving back in this way, or rather paying it forward, to the families that are there at the hospital going through some pretty rough stuff. Won’t you join me?
Here are the items that are being collected:
Fun size chocolate
Individual packs peanuts/cashews/almonds
Nature Valley Granola bars
Assorted chips (pretzels, Doritos, Fritos)
Baked chips (Doritos, Lays, Sun Chips, Cheetos)
Individual beef jerky sticks
Individual packs: Reg. and sour Skittles, Swedish Fish, Licorice
Individual packs: Nutty Bars
Individual packs: Oreo cookies
Original Rice Krispy Treats
Individual packs: Peanut Butter
Canned Soda (Coke – reg and diet; Pepsi – reg and diet; Mountain Dew – reg and diet; Dr. Pepper – reg and diet)
Canned (not bottled) water
Mini-muffins (blueberry and chocolate)
Life saver mints and/or gum
Toiletry items (all trial/travel sized):
Finally, I’m making these bags that the toiletry items are going in along with my children and some friends who sew. The bags are very simple: a drawstring bag made with basic fabric (purple in color), and ribbon (also purple). If you have a stash of fabric, I’m putting out a plea for purple! For one bag, I need 18 x 22 inches or a “fat quarter” of fabric and 25 inches of ribbon. Fabric store gift cards would be welcome as well.
Please let us know if and how you can help. Also, feel free to pass this along to anyone you may know who would like to help! For those of you not in the St. Louis area, donations can be sent to us or the Foundation Office:

Thanks so much for your consideration, your prayers for our family and especially Pinger/TDS! We’ve had quite a year and the future looks bright. May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving, a joyous Advent and a Merry Christmas.
In the Infant King,
The Wife/Mama Bear/Jenny 🙂
